VI: 42

Chapter 6, Verse 42

"Or they may even be born
Into a family of Yogis,
Where the  wisdom of Yoga shines.
But to be born into such a family
Is a rare event in this world."

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi:

Krishna impresses upon Arjuna the idea that "to be born again into a family of the good and the great" is more common than "to be born into a family of Yogis where the wisdom of Yoga shines."  There are two reasons for this.  Not only are such families of Yogis scarce in this world, but one also needs a high degree of purity before one can be born into the holy atmosphere of such a family.  Being born into such an atmosphere, one has a chance to quickly become God-conscious.

Paramahansa Yogananda:

When advanced Yogis are true to God to the end of their lives and yet do not receive complete emancipation owing to the obstruction of some buried past Karma, they receive a fresh, providential opportunity.  They are suitably rewarded by rebirth in the home of Yogis who are also householders.  There, in the company of their exalted parents, they find no incentive to hanker after sense pleasures, but try from the beginning to attain the final spiritual glory.
