VI: 3

Chapter 6, Verse 3

“When sages climb
The heights of Yoga,
They follow the path of holy work.
When they reach
The heights of Yoga,
They are in the land of peace.”

Sri Krishna Prem:

It is in selfless action that the way to Yoga lies. The forcible opening of a bud will not produce a blossom. It is only when a student is firmly established in the path that the serenity of meditation can be a means of further advance.

Srila Prabhupada:

Concerning the eightfold Yoga system [Ashtanga Yoga, also known as Raja Yoga], attempts in the beginning to enter into meditation through regulating principles of life and practice of different sitting postures and breathing techniques are considered fruitful material activities. All such activities lead to the achievement of perfect mental equilibrium to control the senses. When one becomes accomplished in the practice of meditation, all disturbing mental activities cease.

A Krishna conscious person, however, is situated from the beginning on the platform of meditation because he or she always thinks of Krishna. Being constantly engaged in the service of Krishna, he or she is considered to have ceased all material activities.

[“…he or she always thinks of Krishna.” This is easy to say, but not so easy to do.]
