V: 26

Chapter 5, Verse 26

"The peace of the Self is with those
Whose minds and hearts are in harmony,
Who know that the joy of the Self
Is nearer than near."

Father Bede Griffiths:

The Sikhs have a very profound idea of a personal God. They say that when selfish desire is mastered, you discover yourself as the image of God. God is in you and you are in God. This is the point in which the human spirit becomes one with the spirit of God. It is important to understand the dynamism that is at work here. We are not normally still. We are ordinarily in a state of movement, and what we are trying to do here is to bring our mind and our will and our heart to that point in which we are fixed in spirit.

Eckhart Tolle:

Silence is helpful, but you don't need it in order to find stillness. Even when there is noise, you can be aware of the stillness underneath the noise, of the space in which the noise arises. That is the inner space of pure awareness, consciousness itself. You can become aware of awareness itself as the background of all your sense perceptions and all your thinking. Becoming aware of awareness is the portal to inner stillness.
