V: 18

Chapter 5, Verse 18

"With the same evenness of unconditional Love,
They behold a priest, a cow, an elephant, or a dog,
And also one who eats a dog."

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi:

Wisdom fosters humility. Just as the wise see the distinctions and differences in creation as only temporary with the one underlying Reality infusing them all with consciousness, so do they not insist that things happen in any particular fashion.

Humility is commonly understood to be the recognition of one's personal limitations and insignificance. True humility, however, comprises the experiential awareness of the unity of all life. It is not about an attitude of mind.

Srila Prabhupada:

The Supreme Lord, as Paramatma, is present in everyone's heart. As far as bodies are concerned in different castes or different species of life, the Lord is equally kind to everyone, because he treats every living being as a friend, while maintaining himself as Paramatma, regardless of the circumstances of the living entities.

Physical bodies are material productions of the different modes of material nature, but the individual soul and the Supersoul within the body are of the same spiritual quality. The similarity in the quality of the individual soul and the Supersoul, however, does not make them equal in quantity, for the individual soul is present only in that particular body, whereas the Paramatma is present in each and every body.

The similar characteristics of the individual soul and Supersoul are that they are both conscious, eternal, and blissful. The difference is that the individual soul is conscious within the limited jurisdiction of the body, whereas the Supersoul is conscious of all bodies. The Supersoul is present within all bodies without distinction."

Sri Aurobindo:

Krishna in the Gita says that he is equal to all in spirit. He has at heart for all the same equal kindliness and the same divine affection. Circumstances may determine an outward clasp or an outward conflict, but can never affect his equal eye, his open heart, and his inner embrace of all.

And yet, the God-lover is the special receiver of his grace, because this relationship is different, and the one impartial Lord of all meets each soul according to its way of approaching him."
